The Flag of Ayacucho, the capital city of the Ayacucho Region in Peru, is a significant symbol of local identity and historical significance. This flag, unique to Ayacucho, was officially adopted in 1984. It consists of three horizontal bands representing the three departments that make up the Ayacucho region: Huamanga (Ayacucho city), La Mar, and Vilcas Huamanga. The upper band is green, symbolizing hope; the middle band is white, signifying peace; and the lower band is red, representing courage. A yellow sun with 14 rays appears in the center of the flag, representing unity and the 14 provinces that constitute the Ayacucho region. The flag serves as a reminder of the city's rich history, particularly its role in Peruvian independence under General Jos de San Martn.
