The 144th Infantry Regiment is a historical infantry regiment of the United States Army. Established on June 2, 1921, it was a part of the Ohio National Guard until 1942 when it was federalized and served in World War II. It was deactivated on August 31, 1945, after the war's end.The regiment saw action in various theaters during World War II, including North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Southern France, and the Rhineland. The 144th Infantry Regiment was reactivated as a parent unit in 2006 for National Guard units from Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana. However, these units do not form an organic regiment and are instead part of separate brigades. The 144th Infantry Regiment holds significant historical importance due to its participation in major campaigns during World War II. Despite its deactivation after the war, it remains a symbol of bravery and service for the soldiers who served under its name.
